"End of The Spear"

I've been watching the "Christian" response to Chad Allen's casting in the movie "End of the Spear." I can't help but think who Jesus would be hanging out with if he were here among us today. If you remember, he was criticized for hanging out with sinners. In one case it was a prostitute. In another, tax collectors.

As Jesus was getting more and more popular, do you think He asked the question, "Wow, if I take an interest in 'those' people, will I give them a platform to express their views?" I truly believe he would take in big interest in those practicing homosexuality. I also think HIV/AIDS would be high on his radar.

We as Christians have the ability to come across as being unloving, uncaring, bigots, who only believe in 'what's right and wrong' and not show compassion to those who have been led down the wrong road of sin and unbelief (which is what all of us want apart from Christ). Or, we can choose to show a compassionate heart. To pray for someone who obviously needs Christ as much as we do. Let's face it ladies and gentlemen, we're all beggars looking for bread. As believers, we found it. Let's not be afraid to share a little with everyone who needs it.

I'm not endorsing Chad Allen's casting in the film, nor am I against Allen's role. What I am praying is that God's uses his role and this character to work a miracle in His heart and lead Allen to Himself. What a testimony that would be, don't you think? I hope you all will pray with me.

While I haven't seen the film yet, I do plan to see it.

One suggestion please. You have expressed that Jesus engaged in "hanging out" with sinners. You will remember that the scripture says He was rather a "friend of sinners" (Matthew 11:19). There is a major difference. True friends do not ignore sin, they rather confront it (Matthew 11:20-21), and relate clearly the solution, which is new life in Christ (John 15:12-14).

I'm not suggesting that we ignore sin. I simply suggesting that we as believers need to look at the 'plank in our own eye' before we try to get the speck out of someone elses eye. We as believers need to show LOVE for people. We're always so quick to judge the lost when they're doing exactly what lost people do -- sin. We need to react to people as we do when there's a fire, earthquake, or other emergency that could take someone's life. The emergency their facing is much worse than physical death, it's spiritual death. If you can't approach unbelievers who are acting the way unbelievers act with love, compassion and concern, you'll never be able to talk to them about Christ. That's what Christ did.

Sin is contagious. If you hang around with sinners, you may soon begin to emulate them. I listened to this show and was much blessed. Click here
