Christian Radio

This blog has been established to talk about Christian Radio (the industry) and to encourage those who are working in the industry. I would like to talk about news, music, programs and whatever else comes up. My goal is to get listeners and the professionals to talk about the issues to help make the ministry even better and stronger. Tell all you know about this blog.

What is ministry in Radio

I have a question for you and I need a response. What is ministry, when it comes to radio? Is it just playing Christian music? What makes that 'ministry?' There are so many ministries that claim they're 'ministering' when in reality it's only entertainment.

I struggle with that at Mission Network News. We claim to be ministry. What part of 'news' is 'ministry?' Is telling people about the needs and accomplishments of missionaries ministry? Is telling people they should get involved in missions ministry?

I guess when you read the definition of ministry in the dictionary it does fit. But, it seems like CHRISTIAN ministry should be more than just serving others. I think it should be more linked to evangelism, discipleship, church planting, etc

Anything that we do which enourages, edifies, redeems, helps, corrects, informs, is an act of service, keeps them away from things that are of the devil, points people to Jesus, or reminds them of Him, is ministry.

A song can accomplish those things, as can a news report, and even a quick properly executed break about culture or life.

It doesn't always have to be deep or theological to minister. God can and will use anything as He sees fit.

Wow...don't you think it's ironic that you would actually say, " seems like CHRISTIAN ministry should be more than just serving others." What more should it be? What more COULD it be? Granted, your statement is very general, but you said it...that's what ministry is. And remember, we are a Body. None of us are "all things to all men", so you (like me) have an important role to play in the larger scheme of things. I am a missionary with HCJB (previously in Ecuador, now in the way, you spelled Ecuador wrong in your header 8^P ) and I download your program most weekdays for edification and also for use in our "Asia Focus" production here (weekly magazine...Christian news and current events in Asia). I appreciated your work when I played your daily report in Quito, and I appreciate it now. Hang in there, bro. Keep desiring to do the will of God.

What I meant was, serving others is good. It's great, but if you're not serving others with the intent on sharing the Gospel, what's the point. Many mission organizations have fallen into this trap. I've heard it more than once, "If people have an empty belly they're not going to care about the Gospel." I don't think that's totally correct. I think they need food, but more importantly, they need to know they're sinners and they need a Savior.
